Chernihiv (Чернігів), often called by the Russian name Chernigov (Чернигов), is a province (Chernihiv Oblast) , the boundaries of which lie in present day Ukraine and Russia. In the nineteenth century, western maps show the spelling as Tchernigov. The capital is an ancient city of the same name in northern Ukraine.
The purpose of this website is to exchange information and resources with those who share an interest in the history of the people of Chernigov. It is the collective work of a group of more than 100 genealogists whose ancestors came from this area of Eastern Europe. It is hosted free of charge through the generosity of, and on the servers of, Rootsweb.
